A test certificate is more than just numbers — it is your assurance that materials meet specifications. Here is how to read and understand each section.
Header Information
Laboratory Details
- Lab Name and Address: Your testing facility
- Certificate Number: Unique identifier for tracking
- Issue Date: When the report was generated
- Valid From: Start of testing period
Client Information
- Client Name: Who requested the testing
- Project Reference: Your internal tracking number
- Purchase Order: Linking to commercial documentation
Sample Details
Material Identification
- Material Grade: Specification e.g. ASTM A36 SS304
- HeatLot Number: Batch identification
- Sample Type: Bar plate pipe weld etc.
Test Parameters
- Test Standards: Relevant specifications ASTM IS etc.
- Test Conditions: Temperature humidity during testing
Results Section
Chemical Composition
Each element percentage is listed compared against specification limits
Mechanical Properties
- Tensile Strength: Ultimate and yield strength
- Hardness: HV Rockwell or Brinell values
- Impact Test: Charpy V-notch results
- Elongation: Ductility measurement
PassFail Criteria
Each result is marked as:
- PASS: Within specification limits
